Person Looking at the Mirror

Myers-Briggs Personality Types

The Myers-Briggs Personality Inventory is used by many organizations, including schools, non-profits, and businesses, as a tool to determine a person's personality preferences. It is not a magic mirror to see how a person will act or what they will be good at, but it is a good tool to use to understand what YOU need to gather and synthesize information.

Katharine Briggs began developing the system to help her write richer, more nuanced characters in her novels. She and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers discovered the personality work of Carl Jung and used that to more fully develop their 16-type inventory.

I find it helpful when figuring out how to communicate with and convince others of (I'm not going to say "manipulate") my point of view, and to understand their point of view.  I also find it valuable to use in setting up a committee. A good balance of intuitive and sensing people, judgers and perceivers, thinkers and feelers is necessary for a productive and creative committee.

More than anything, it has given me "permission" to say, "I need to think about this by myself for awhile, because I am an introvert," and other things that validate my Self's needs.
